Jessica and Michael,
You do not know me, but I knew your father. In fact, when I attended IUSD hygiene school in the mid-80’s, he convinced me to apply for dental school, and came to become probably my biggest mentor. I graduated from IUSD in 1990 with honors and your dad played an instrumental role in that part of my life. I was so saddened to hear of his passing.I did write to your mom when he died and told her the same thing I share with you now. I happened to see her obit in the Star, and I am so sorry for your loss. Though I did not know her, I feel like I knew your dad well enough to know she must have been a very special person. You have my deepest sympathy and continued prayers for strength and support in the difficult times ahead.

I am shocked and profoundly saddened to learn of Shirene’s passing. I admired her courage as a young widow and mother, and her devotion to God and church. From our days as members of the widowed group at St. Matthew Catholic Church, I remember Shirene’s courage to go on living despite her grief. I especially remember how caring and supportive she was at the passing of my mother almost 10 years ago. She had a warm and caring nature and I fondly remember her warm smile. I was blessed to have known her. My deepest sympathy and most-supportive prayers are with you, Jessica and Michael. Your mother was very proud of you both.

I always remembered your mom as being a very quiet individual, all through high school… but I’ll never forget the first time I visited your house in college, she walked in the door and, immediately upon seeing me, grew the biggest smile on her face and screamed my name in welcome. I’ll always remember her that way. My wife and I are both thinking of you, and praying for you. Please do not hesitate to call us with anything you need.

Jessica & Michael,
It is Wednesday evening as I write this…and I am moved, very deeply, by the beauty of the service the two of you planned for your Mom. It was perfect in that it reflected her beauty, strenth, and life. I know how much your prescence lifted her – always – and through these last days. You are wonderful children to a wonderful mother. God Bless You….and know that Dennis and I are always here for anything you ever need.

Dear Bricker Family, Just wanted to say how saddened I was to read the news of Shirene’s passing. Though I only new her briefly, it was always my pleasure to enhance her already beautiful hands and nails. She was a gentle and lovely woman and am glad to have met her. When I saw her last Thursday, the polish she chose was “Sowing Seeds of Love”… May the Lord bless her and keep her also you and yours….Sincerely, her Manicurist-Cindy Papathanasiou

Dear Jessica: Agnese advised me of your mother’s passing. Agnese, Kris and I would like to express our sincerest sympathy to you, your brother, family and friends.
Even though I met you only once, it was evident that you and your mother shared a very close relationship. Your love and concern for her I know was a great consolation to her as she battled her disease.
As Agnese shared with me, it is of great consolation for all those who loved your mother, that she is now in joy and peace with our Lord in Heaven.
May the Holy Spirit comfort you and wrap you in His Love!
With our thoughts and prayers, Agnese, Kris and Carole Kleinops

Dear Jessica and Micheal I want you to know it was a pleasure being in the same room with your mom during her last days. I could tell she was a strong and wonderful woman. I feel very blessed to have met her if it was even just briefly. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. You are both wonderful people. And thank you to you and your family and friends for talking to my mom…she liked that a lot.

Michael & Jessica,
Goodness knows your mom was a saint for putting up with all our spud-playing shenanigans in what I think of as my second home on Washington Blvd. I hope you realize what a wide network of support you have, even though we’re not just across the street anymore.
